Flood Outlook Statements issued for our region

Thin ice on local waterways.

THE COUNTIES, Ontario - Both the Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA) and South Nation Conservation (SNC) have issued Flood Outlook Statements for the region.

Daytime and overnight temperatures are likely to remain above freezing through the next four days. On Saturday, March 19, 20 mm of rain is forecast. Snowmelt will increase water levels and flows in watersheds over the coming days. If rainfall occurs as forecast, water levels could reach their highest point of 2022.

Currently, nuisance flooding of low-lying areas is expected. Water levels and flows may change rapidly. Take extra caution near waterbodies. Residents in areas regularly affected by spring flooding should take precautions to protect their property, such as:

  • Ensuring sump pump is clear, in good working condition, and has a backwater valve
  • Ensuring easy access to a portable backup generator and pump
  • Ensuring downspouts are clear, with outlets at least three metres away from the building
  • Securing items that might float away as flows increase

A Flood Watch or Flood Warnings could be issued if the possibility of flooding becomes significant, or imminent, respectively.
