SDG COUNTIES. Ontario - A pair of conservation authorities in our region have issued water safety statements in advance of a wet weekend.
The Raisin Region Conservation Authority and South Nation Conservation have suggested that with a deluge on rainy wet weather on the way for March 9 and 10 water levels and flows in local watercourses could increased significantly, potentially causing nuisance flooding in low-lying areas. Please be aware that high-water flows and slippery conditions around water could be dangerous. Caution should be exercised near waterbodies.
This statements are in effect until Friday, March 15.
Residents in flood prone or low-lying areas, historically susceptible to flooding, should take the necessary precautions to protect their property. Please ensure:
- Sump pump is clear, in good working condition and has a backwater valve on it.
- Easy access to portable backup generator and pump.
- Downspouts are clear and the outlet is at least 3 m from the dwelling.
- Securing items that might float away as flows increase.
