SDG COUNTIES, Ontario - Martin Lang will be SDG Counties Warden in 2025.
At its meeting Aug. 26, SDG Counties Council elected the deputy mayor of the Township of South Glengarry to sit as the head of council, with a swearing-in to take place in December. This year council agreed to select the incoming warden in August, to allow a greater overlap before the changeover.
Lang, as well as Coun. Bryan McGillis, expressed interest in the role last month, and a secret-ballot election took place during the Aug. 26 council meeting.
Lang is a first-time member of SDG Counties Council, but is enjoying his second term as a member of the South Glengarry council. In 2018 Lang was elected as a councillor in South Glengarry. Lang indicated he's looking forward to leading SDG Counties into 2025.
I'm very appreciative of this opportunty. I will work hard to represent council and our residents to the best of my ability," said Lang. "Our work at the upper-tier is integral to the successes we have outlined in the SDG Counties strategic plan. It's my goal to ensure that our work remains focused, positive and fiscally-responsible."
2024 SDG Counties Warden Jamie MacDonald will work closely with Lang for the balance of the year to ensure the transition is both smooth and efficient.
"By electing the incoming warden now, we can work together to ensure important files like infrastructure improvements, health care, education and housing are advanced for the betterment of our community and residents," said MacDonald.
SDG Counties Council will hold its 2025 inaugural meeting on Dec. 13 at 11:30 a.m.
