Frank Prevost will remain as SDG warden in 2021
THE COUNTY, Ontario – For the first time in its 170-year history, an individual will sit as the Warden of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry for a third term.
Warden Frank Prevost was chosen today to continue as the 2021 head of council. His name was drawn from a County hat, after two tied ballots at council’s regular meeting.
“It is an honour to be named Warden of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry for a third time,” said Prevost, who is currently warden and also sat as the head of council in 2000. “COVID-19 has had a tremendous impact on the residents and businesses of SDG over this year. I look forward to meeting the challenges of 2021 and with the help of my colleagues around the council table, as well as administration, we will work to ensure a strengthened new year for everyone.”
Councillor Tony Fraser had put his name forward as well, and both men agreed the prosperity of SDG is paramount in light of the global pandemic.
“I congratulate and look forward to working alongside Warden Prevost, as well as my council colleagues, as we are all committed to doing our best for the residents of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry in the year to come,” said Fraser.
Council voted not once, but twice via secret ballot to determine the 2021 Warden. After two votes were tied 6-6, all of the ballots were placed into a County hat by CAO Tim Simpson and Clerk Helen Thomson. Thomson pulled a single ballot from the hat and announced Prevost’s appointment. This is the third time in recent memory that a vote for warden has required a name drawn from a hat to settle the election.
Council decides every autumn who will sit as Warden for the coming year.
