WATCH US GO! Amazing Race Canada hits SDG Counties Aug. 27

The Amazing Race features SDG Counties on its Aug. 27 episode.

SDG COUNTIES, Ontario - Most of us already know how amazing SDG Counties is - now the rest of the country will know as well.

CTV's The Amazing Race Canada will air an episode Aug. 27 that will be steeped in local flavours, as racers visit the Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville, as well as the SDG Counties waterfront, and the City of Cornwall, on their way to a $250,000 grand prize and a trip around the world.

Under a shroud of secrecy producers, contestants and even popular host Jon Montgomery spent a day or so in our region in May, filming locales and contestants who had to complete challenges that would allow players to move on in the competition.

The curtain was lifted just a bit on what we can expect to see in the Aug. 27 episode. During this week's episode showrunners teased some of the scenes we can expect to see, including contestants dressed in their best highland attire in Maxville, as well as some paddling on the St. Lawrence River and a street hockey game in Cornwall.

“Residents of, and visitors to, SDG Counties are well aware of the beauty and majesty of our region – most especially the Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville,” said SDG Counties Warden Jamie MacDonald. “But thanks to the showcase created by The Amazing Race, and its devoted national fanbase, now the rest of Canada will see first-hand why our region is such an incredible place to call home.

“I encourage our residents to watch the next episode of the show with pride. It’s the local faces you will see, on a national stage, that make me so proud to be from North Glengarry, and SDG Counties.”

SDG Counties interim economic development manager Karina Belanger added the spectacle of a national TV show is an excellent vehicle for marketing our region to a mass audience.

"We are so excited that The Amazing Race decided to shoot an episode in our region," said Belanger. "Canada will see some of the best attractions and smiling faces that make our region amazing. We can't wait for the episode."
